Form Painting

Art II students started off with a review of value.  Students were first asked to draw still life objects using value to create form.  We then switched to paint using only black and white. Switching mediums proved to be a challenge.  Students painted on a altered surface which they had collaged and painted.  They then used shapes developed to varying degrees in their background.

Line is the most basic element of art and our starting point for exploration of the elements.  This year students were challenged to create a sculpture in the round using only lines made from rolled magazine pages.  Sculptures could hang or be freestanding.  Some students chose to work in groups.  Here are some of our results......

It always makes me happy to see a blank wall come to life with some artwork.  BHS Art I students have stepped up this year to fill up some of our empty space with design and color.  I love the results of their first project.  These designs were created through repetition of the initials or names of the students. Then they added color with marker and color pencil on top.

Students start with a simple design created with their name or initials.

We then repeated the original design as a mirror image.

Color is added with marker and then color pencil to add depth and texture

Welcome Back

This year we're off to a hot start!--Our record breaking heat wave won't seem to let up--even though the calendar says time for school.  We are ready for some new adventures in the art department here at Boyd High School.

Mr. Hazard and the BHS band are busy putting the finishing touches on their marching show called "Aztec Fire".  Their fall marching competition will be held on October 22, at the C H Collins Athletic Complex in Denton, Texas.

Ms. McDonald is back and busy as ever.  Besides heading up the theatre department and color guard she is also our new Senior English teacher.

I (Mrs. Brown) am looking forward to a great year in visual arts.  Classes this week looked great, got to work quickly and we are already about half way through with our first project.  I'll share results of those designs as we finish.  We also hope to establish an art club this year.  So once again we hit the ground running!

Relief Sculptures

Art I students took their lines from 2-D to 3 dimensions as well.  Students created line relief sculptures using matboard.  Sculptures are painted with spray paint.
